Ayurvedic Nutrition

At Nau Choice Wellness, Ayurvedic nutrition is approached as a tool for self-awareness, not a rigid food system. My intention is to help clients (and myself!) tune into their unique constitution, strengthen digestion, and build a more intuitive relationship with food—one that feels balanced, sustainable, and real.

Rather than labeling foods as “good” or “bad,” we focus on how food feels in the body, how it’s digested, and how it supports energy, mood, and nervous system regulation across different seasons and life phases.

A central concept we work with is agni—your digestive fire. Agni influences not just digestion, but metabolism, clarity, immunity, and overall vitality. When agni is supported, the body is better able to assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste. When it’s compromised, even “healthy” foods can feel heavy or disruptive.

Digestion, Metabolism & the Body’s Intelligence

From both Ayurvedic and modern perspectives, digestion is more than the stomach—it’s a complex system involving enzymes, hormones, nervous system signals, and metabolic processes.

In this work, we explore:

  • How stress and the nervous system affect digestion

  • Why timing, temperature, and food combinations matter

  • How seasonal shifts influence appetite and digestive capacity

Ayurveda pairs naturally with evidence-informed nutrition by emphasizing digestive capacity, not just nutrient density. Two people can eat the same food and have completely different responses—and that information matters.

Fat, Carbohydrates & Nutrition Chemistry (Without the Fear)

Rather than promoting restrictive trends, this approach looks at how macronutrients interact with digestion and metabolism.

We explore questions like:

  • How do fats support satiety, hormone balance, and nervous system health?

  • How do carbohydrates provide energy—and when do they feel grounding versus destabilizing?

  • How does digestion change based on activity level, stress, and constitution?

Ayurveda doesn’t demonize food groups. Instead, it asks:

Is this food supportive for you, right now, in this season, with your current digestive fire?

This allows nutrition to feel responsive, not prescriptive.

The Doshas: Understanding Your Constitution

Ayurveda recognizes three primary doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—which reflect patterns of energy, digestion, metabolism, and nervous system tendencies.

  • Vata relates to movement, variability, and sensitivity

  • Pitta relates to heat, transformation, and intensity

  • Kapha relates to stability, structure, and nourishment

Most people are a blend of all three, with one or two dominant influences. Understanding your dosha can offer insight into:

  • Digestive patterns

  • Energy fluctuations

  • Emotional tendencies

  • Food preferences and sensitivities

This isn’t about fitting into a box—it’s about noticing patterns and responding with care.

Dosha Assessment & Exploration

Clients are invited to explore their constitution through a dosha assessment (often referred to as a “dosha test”), combined with lived observation and reflection. The assessment is a starting point—not a diagnosis.

Together, we look at:

  • How your constitution shows up in daily life

  • How digestion responds to different foods and rhythms

  • How to make small, practical adjustments that feel doable

The goal is self-trust, not perfection.

A Complementary, Transparent Approach

I understand that some clients may feel skeptical or conflicted—especially when navigating conventional medical advice alongside Ayurvedic guidance. This space is intentionally transparent and flexible.

Ayurveda here is offered as:

  • A complementary framework, not a replacement for medical care

  • A way to understand patterns, not prescribe rigid rules

  • A supportive lens that honors both modern science and embodied wisdom

Clients are always encouraged to make choices that align with their health needs, lifestyle, culture, and values—without pressure or judgment.

The Intention

This work is about making nutrition feel intuitive, grounded, and empowering. Food becomes a conversation with the body, not a checklist to follow or fail.

Just like movement, nutrition at Nau Choice Wellness is:

  • Choice-based

  • Nervous-system aware

  • Adaptable

  • Human

One meal. One rhythm. One choice at a time. Listen to your body—your body knows.

Nau Choice Wellness – Discover Your Dosha

"When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need." — Ayurvedic Proverb

Hey, you. This isn’t a diet test. It’s a cheat code to understand yourself and your body’s natural rhythm.

A Little Secret from Me to You

When I first discovered my Dosha, it was like someone handed me the instruction manual to me. Those afternoons when I crashed on the bed weren’t a “failure”—they were my body saying, “Hey, I need a breath, Sophie.” And those foods I thought were “bad” weren’t bad—they just weren’t my vibe.

Once I started listening, everything shifted. More energy, less overwhelm, and a real sense that I was finally working with my body, not against it.

Here’s the deal: knowing your Dosha isn’t about rules or diets. It’s about knowing yourself, honoring your rhythms, and living in alignment with your body and mind.

What is a Dosha?

Ayurveda, the ancient healing system from India, teaches that balance is everything. At the core of this wisdom are Doshas—your unique mind-body energies that define how you thrive, move, think, feel, and stay in harmony.

The word Dosha comes from Sanskrit and literally means “that which can cause imbalance.” It’s an energy pattern that governs your physical, mental, and emotional traits.

The three primary Doshas:

  • Vata – Air + Ether: Creative, energetic, spontaneous. Governs movement and communication.

  • Pitta – Fire + Water: Determined, focused, intense. Governs digestion and transformation.

  • Kapha – Water + Earth: Calm, grounded, nurturing. Governs stability and structure.

Why Knowing Your Dosha Matters

When you understand your Dosha, you can:

  • Make food and lifestyle choices that naturally support your rhythm

  • Reduce stress, fatigue, and imbalance

  • Enhance your overall wellness, energy, and vitality
